Sad Saturday: We Will See Each Other Again

I was hoping to minimize the sadness of the realization that I will have to separate Chooey and Peanuts by avoiding it for some while. As I've mentioned when we introduced Chooey into our pack, she is our temporary sister. The time has come that she will meet Buchi.

Chooey and Peanuts enjoying the day with a puppy visit.
On Tuesday, I will be leaving for my sister's. Unfortunately, it will be quite some while before Peanuts and I can reunite again.

Peanuts will be living with my beau, which to her advantage will spoil her rotten (allowing her to sleep on the bed and such). So don't be sad about Peanuts, she's actually in better hands than mine (without the flashy beast following her, too!).

It might be a couple of days before I can make a new post so please bear with me.

This Sunshine Award came from Sheba's Life Story.
I have received the Sunshine award from Ian and Sheba so I'd like to thank you at the bottom of my heart for this. I hope you don't mind me linking my old post on this one, Ian.

7 Reasons to Adopt a Dog From a Rescue Shelter (Bloggers Unite for Dog Rescue)

Today is the 23rd of July. According to Leslie from Bringing Up Bella, today is a day for us bloggers to make a difference for homeless dogs all over the world. I and my pack have decided to participate and put some extra effort in this post.

BLOGGERS UNITE FOR DOG RESCUE
On July 23rd, BtC4A, in coordination with Dog Rescue Success and Blog Catalog, is hosting a global blogging event to promote dog adoption. "Bloggers Unite for Dog Rescue" invites everyone to spread the word about how important dog rescue and adoption is to the lives of so many animals.

Still not convinced after watching this video? How about knowing you've given a homeless dog a good home and a future?

I'm pretty sure the reasons above should suffice. Still, here are MORE reasons why it is better to adopt a dog from a rescue shelter.

1. Rescue shelters know more about their dogs compared to average shelters because rescuers spend more one-on-one time with them. Rescuers are usually able to tell potential owners of the dog's interaction with other dogs or pets, children and strangers.

2. Dogs from rescue shelters are already vaccinated, spayed or neutered and usually microchipped. This definitely saves you multiple visits to the vet.

3. The adoption fee for a dog coming from a shelter is far less than the price of a puppy from a breeder. Check out adoption events in your locality. Some adoption events have discounted adoption charges and others even have free goodie bags (consisting of dog bowls, collars, leashes, and doggy toys).

4. Not all dogs in the shelter have issues. Other dogs end up there due to being unwanted.

5. A rescue dog may come with a bag of tricks. Some are potty-trained and others even know a handful of commands.

6. If it doesn't bode well with you and your new dog, you can bring the dog back to the rescue and know that he will be safe. But don't give up just yet, some dogs just take a little longer to come out of their shell.

7. Some rescue groups offer short health guarantees. Others take it up a notch by offering to split health bills and navigate you through unforeseen situations.

Family Friday: New Badge and 5 Tick Killing/Removal Tips

Isn't it a wonderful day? Today is Friday and that closes the chapter of another week of our dog life with Peanuts, Chooey, Ginger, BD and Coal.

I decided to change our badge so as to include the entire pack. Presenting our new badge....

Next, Ticks... What's the deal with them?

I certainly hate tick infestation and one of the most tedious part of eliminating the ones sticking to our dogs is how to kill or remove them without having to squish them with our fingers.

Reading Joey Green's Amazing Pet Cures, here are some interesting tips/products I'm going to share.

1. Glue - Apply it to the embedded tick then steadily pull it out from the skin (preferably with a pair of tweezers gripping its head).

2. Nail Polish - A great way to suffocate those annoying ticks. You can even color code them. Red for the fat ones, Blue for the not so bloated and Green for ticks that are on top of one another.

3. Petroleum Jelly - Use a pair of gloves and cover the tick with petroleum jelly. It'll suffocate causing it to let go.

4. White Out or Liquid Paper - Same concept... suffocation! Die, Ticks. Die! Paint off the entire tick's body so that it couldn't breathe.

5. Baby Oil or Vegetable Oil - Use this to loosen the tick from the dog's body. Then pull it slowly with a tweezers. We wouldn't want our dogs to have bloody bite marks on them, do we?

Don't forget to use an antiseptic such as Betadine or Neosporin after removing the ticks from dogs just to add a layer of protection against infection and diseases coming from ticks.

Why not use my fingers instead?

Do you want to risk infection from tick blood? Make sure to grasp the ticks head by the skin line or near the tick head so as not to leave it embedded in the dog's skin.

Mischief Monday: Procrastinating with Awards

Question: So Haopee, how many awards did you get before you decided to write this post?

Answer: A LOT!

List of Awards

First and foremost, I would like to thank each and every single being, human and pet alike who awarded these to me.

We have been awarded the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by Brando and Bogart, Dachshund Nola and Alison and Zoe from Pawfect Days.

The  Illuminating Blogger was given by Carolyn and Austin of Catachresis and Gronk and Izzie.

Lastly, the Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award! came from Poppy.

Two blogging awards (namely the Very Inspiring Blogger Award and the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award) had the same rules which required us to share 7 things about ourselves and pass it to 15 bloggers.

The Illuminating Blogger Award required us to share one interesting fact about ourselves and for it to be forwarded to 5 others. Due to short attention span constraints, we hope no one objects that the 1 fact and 5 bloggers are to be already included in the next segment of this VERY LONG POST.

With no further ado, we'd like to present our Creature Feature.

1. Haopee is a creature of coffee. This means that I'm willing to be paid in form of coffee beans and whipped cream.

2. Chooey is a creature of art. She dances in front of my mom to beg for food.

3. Peanuts is a creature of nature. When she hears commotion outside, she will scratch, whine and look at me hoping I'd let her out.

4. Ginger is a creature of food. She is food driven which means she can learn tricks faster than any of the dogs as long as she's rewarded with food.

5. Coal is a creature of noise. I seriously need to buy a pair of ear plugs. Coal doesn't bark-not once in his entire dog life, he only whines in this high pitched tone.

6. Brother Dog is a creature of fleas. Seriously, he still doesn't want us to touch him- or bathe him for that matter! He is the type who will only come close to his food when the coast is clear.

7. The last person in our creature feature is Haopee's Beau. Yes, you seldom hear about him but he exists. Haopee's Beau is a creature of patience. He puts up with all 6 of us.

Now, to distribute these wonderful awards to other bloggers, I would like to name 15 special bloggers who deserve them very much. And due to the fact that you may have receive these awards already, I would like to request that the rules be bent for the awardees to have the freedom to choose which of the three they prefer posting about.

1. Magic from Life in the Doghouse
2. Bella from Bringing Up Bella
3. Gronk and Izzie, the Two Toilet-Trained Kitties
4. Suka from Suka's Just Sayin
5. Nicki and Derry of Fuzzy Tales
6. Teddy and Sierra of Teddy's Tales
7. Molly the Wally and her Slog it, Blog it
8. Stewey of Stewey Unscene

One moment...Coffee and Sandwich Break ^_^. Kindly make yourselves at home with Peanuts intermission picture.

9. Sally, Luna and Charlie of It's a Weinerful Life
10. Oui Oui and Mica Minnie Moo of Twinkletoe Tails
11. Whisky, Tortie, Tutu and the Entire Crew of The Furries of Whispy
14. Dougall of The Dougal Diaries
15. Lastly, Cotton from A Tale on Cotton The Rescue Dog

Any questions? Violent reactions? No?

Good! Here, have a cookie!

Frustrating Friday: I am Lennox

I've been tracking the Lennox case for days now. Truth be told, I only came across it in the news I was browsing.

Rumpy, DogsNPawz and Bringing Up Bella have posted their thoughts about Lennox's execution. All I can say and will say over and over again about the Breed-Specific Legislation is that it should be named the Bul*Sh*t Law because that's what it is.

One of the things I hate about authorities claiming that they are only concerned of the public's safety is that they're mostly full of crap. The authorities in the Belfast City Council said this, so did the authorities who've confiscated thousands of dogs from Jiangmen- some of which were brutally executed in public streets through stick beating.

For example...

Our aim is not to kill all the dogs in the city's urban areas, but we hope to create a better environment for the city by banning the keeping of dogs.

Whilst there is an exemption scheme to which dogs of this type (pit-bull terrier type) may be admitted as an alternative to destruction, there were no such measures that could be applied in this case that would address the concerns relating to public safety.

The Council regrets that the court action was necessary but would emphasise that the safety of the public remains its key priority. Source

Lennox’s Story: Coming to a Dog Near You

Today, I am Lennox. In behalf of our pack, Chooey is Lennox.

Chooey bites, barks, plays and haves fun like a dog. OMD, she has Pit Bull type traits like Lennox!

Wordless Wednesday: Creature of Comfort

Bed? Who needs one?
For those of you who are familiar with Brando and Bogart, they've just recently updated their blog about the terrible move they're experiencing. They lost Rosie and Cleo (their furbabies) in the process and are still looking for a home to settle in. Please find the time to drop by their blog and send out some positive vibes and prayers to them.

Mischief Monday: 139th to 144th Iloilo Kennel Club, Inc. All Breed Championship Dog Show

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Please inform me if you have problems getting into our bloggy. I've been experiencing slow loading time which I've hopefully fixed.

You must be wondering why this post is featured in Mischief Monday. The 139th to 144th Iloilo Kennel Club, Inc. All Breed Championship Dog Show was a breath of fresh air. Sure, some dogs may have left tons of peemail and carpet potties but that's typical, right?

No Mischief Here... YET!
So I took a whole lot of pictures featuring the different breeds. I even checked them out in my ancient self-repaired camera (knowing that the camera can go bonkers at times) and their thumbnails were perfect... but then I copy them into my laptop and this is how they turned out.

Aside from the fact that it's a tad blurry, I will say that this is one of the best pictures there is.
Note: Kindly bear with the following pictures. I did my best.

Dogs and Handlers Strutting Hand and Leash in the 139th to 144th IKC, Inc. All Breed Championship Dog Show last July 7, 2012

It's nice that the Dobermans are friendly. With our average heights, their heads are above our waist level.
Some of the handlers allow their dogs to be petted. And they were nice enough to ignore me while my camera was flashing all over the place.

Super reflective eyes: Whose was better? The Shih-tzus or the Dobermans?
Now I tried taking some action shots. I was lucky to get some of them but then it turns out with a hue of... green! See the original picture above.

Handler and Shih Tzu puppy strutting their stuff against the Beagle and the American Cocker Spaniel
I'm so getting corrected with my dog show lingo.

Couch Potato Peeling Mode! He should join the Blogville Olympics.
This little guy is too bored (or too lazy) to move. The photo above used to be PINK.

The lone entry for the Basenji in... GREEN!
I was so happy seeing the thumbnail of this picture. Unfortunately, this is how it came out. I also wanted to capture this little guy doing his twirling potty dance, but they were either to blurry or too GREEN.

So what do you think? I hope you liked this post as the pretty American Cocker Spaniel feels otherwise.

Your camera sucks. It doesn't deserve to take a pretty picture of me.

Silly Saturdays: Pressies and Dog Show Teaser

Dear Bloggy Friends,

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who has visited our page. We have been quite busy. This week, I  got sick and I also found time to attend the 139th to 144th Iloilo Kennel Club, Inc. All Breed Championship Dog Show... which I took so many pictures of (all of which where defective except for a couple of ones I am able to salvage with the help of Photoshop).

So now, let us start with what my other beloved sister has sent me. Pressies!!! Not for me... but for the pack.

Two bottles of Angel Drops Vitamins and our first Kong AirDog Toys!!!
Angel Drops Calcium Aid was given to Peanuts while she was a growing puppy. I guess it must be one of reasons why she's so TALL. She's supposed to be a JRT and Min Pin mix but she's taller than Ginger! Peanuts looks more like a Greyhound-bodied Terrier-looking dog rather than a Miniature Pinscher Mix.

What about the Kong Toys? Did they like it? You be the judge.

Peanuts even had the guts to take Chooey's squeakers!
And for our teaser of Iloilo Kennel Club, Inc. All Breed Championship Dog Show... allow me to present this picture... WITHOUT THE DOGS.

Iloilo Kennel Club, Inc. 139th to 144th  All Breed Championship Dog Show
The dog show pictures will probably make a good mischief Monday post because they were all really really bad.

Monday Mischief: The Down Trick?!?

One of our recent accomplishments is Chooey now being able able to do the "sit" trick and the "down" trick. Good for me! But occasionally, something else happens.

"I, Chooey, am capable of doing the down trick!"
Sure... boast while you can Chooey. You forgot to mention that it took you a minute to slide your booty to the ground.

See that smirk on her face? That's the evil smile of triumph.

Laid back and relax while waiting for the "up" signal.
And as the shot is captured, she gets coincidentally distracted by Peanuts. If that's understandable, how about this one?

Sorry, Haopee! According to the ACDA (All Cute Dogs Association), tricks without treats is punishable by law.

INGRATE!!!
